10-11-11 Thursday

Today, in this music session, we submitted our compositions. We also pasted our compositions into this booklet handed out when we first entered the classroom. After we pasted the rondo compositions, we wrote down the reflections, things about the song and what do we feel about the song. After submitting the booklet, we had to submit the soft copies as well. I forgot to bring my hard disk so I decided that i would send it later that night to Mr. John's email.

7-11-11 Thursday

Today we received the unit planner for term 2 music. According to the schedule, we need to submit our final rondo composition this week. Afterwards, we discussed the results of our singing and I think i got a pretty good score which is 8/10. Maybe it wasn't perfect but then at least that was already a good score

3-11-11 Monday

Today is the day that we are going to do our singing assessment. For the assessment, we have to sing the Indonesian patriotic song titled " Indonesia pusaka". Firstly, we practiced for the last time, then we started to sing one by one. I took some time adjusting my voice because some of my friends voice a re higher and lower than me so I had to adjust the pitch of the song. Afterwards, i think i did pretty good i this assessment.

31-10-11 Monday

Today, we finalized our compositions and wrote them down on the final paper that was going to be submitted. After we submitted it, we talked about using finale. Finale is a program in the computer to make music sheets and we had to make our final rondo compositions there. Then, we sticked the screen shots of our blog into the MDW. Afterwards, we practiced singing Indonesia pusaka

27-10-11 Thursday

Today, we reviewed about the minor scales. We were told that we had a small quiz but then its orally. before the quiz, we reviewed all the things we needed to know and remember about the quiz. The questions were about the 7 scales. After the short quiz, we were told that we should screen shot parts of our blog and the stick it in the MDW. Later, we were told that we were going to have another singing assessment but the this time, it's Indonesian music. Then, we showed our drafts of the rondo composition but it wasn't the final yet so I made a few changes

24-10-11 Monday

Today, in music, we continued making our rondo composition. I was also a bit stressed because Mr. John was still absent because he, as my guitar teacher could help me in doing my rondo composition by giving some tips and advice. Afterwards, some of use were asked to play just the first 8 bars of our rondo composition. Most of my friends rondo composition sounded very good. Then, we each went to our instrument classes.

17-10-11 Monday

Sadly, today Mr. john was absent so Mr. Herry and Mr. Harry helped and took over for Mr. John. During this session, we were given a brief explanation about the rondo composition we were already starting to make. To help me even more, I used a guitar to help me continue my rondo composition since the guitar is my best instrument and its easy for me to understand. We did this activity for 2 sessions straight.

13-10-11 Thursday

On monday, we didn't have classes. This session, the one joining the binus music fiesta were told that he/she should practice their song in the theory classroom. Some of my friends went to their own instruments classroom so they could focus better there. I also went to the guitar classroom and played my song, Choros composed by J.Pernambuco. After I played, Mr. John gave me some tips and advice on how to play that song better

6-10-11 Thursday

Today, we looked again about the sister scales and stuff related to it. As we learned, it eventually got harder and challenging because of the sharps and the flats. Mr. John tested our knowledge and understanding about this so he asked us one by one to see if we understood. Then, we wrote the important things to remember in our notebooks and then we went to instrument class, where my teacher discussed about the music fiesta that i was going to be joining

Minuet

This is me practicing on my guitar for my assessment, minuet. i turned out not to be so good because i only got a 7 / 10 for this song. I decided to redo the assessment by playing another song

Kachusha

This video is me playing kachusa song in guitar because i didn't get a good score for my previous song. I got a 8.5 / 10 in this song and i think next time if i get a chance, i can do better.

3-10-11 Monday

Today, we were introduced about minor scales. i never learnt anything about minor scales before so it's a bit confusing a first, but the teachers aid it's like the natural scale C in major and Am in minor. After we were explained the differences between the minor and major scales, we figured out the formula to get the next scale which 5th note starts the next scale and 6th note got a sharp.

29-9-11 Thursday

The assessments are now over. Today, we discussed about the topics for term 2. In term 2, we will be making our own composition. the teacher gave us homework to search what is rondo and how are going to make the composition, the format and requirements. In 7th grade, i already made my own composition but that was not using rondo. There is going to be a pattern like A B A' B C but then i'm not sure. I need to learn this because it will be my assessments in term 2

Today, there was one of my friend who didn't do the assessment about the classical song. Then we had reviews about the major scales and all the other theories we learned in music. Then, the teacher checked our blog but then i didn't update my blog until today so maybe i will ask my friends for information on what did we do on the specific dates that i didn't write my reflection on.

22-09-11 Thursday

Today, Mr. John showed us all the scores for the assessments we'e done since the beginning of grade 9 which consisted of the singing assessment, the slide show presentation and the performance of a composition by our great composers using our own musical instrument. We were still waiting for the results of the booklet about our great composers because then teacher didn't check the booklets yet. Afterwards, the teacher gathered the students with good scores in singing and playing the compositions and recorded them again for the exhibition. I wasn't chosen so then i went to instrument class and practiced. Next time, we review again

19-9-11 Monday

Today, we got the results from the quiz last session. I'm grateful that i didn't get a low score but i think i can still improve on my score. I think i got around 22/30 so then i think i need more practice in this. Afterwards, i got my results for playing minuet last session. I got 7, which i think that i'm not satisfied. So, i redo my classical music and i played Kachusha. Afterwards, i got 8.5 for playing Kachusha and that made me very happy and i'm satisfied with my score because i just need to get above 8. Next time, the teacher will show us all of our assessment scores

15-9-11 Thursday

Today, we had a 25 minute quiz about the major chords, major seventh chords and the dominant seventh chords. i didn't study much for the quiz but it turns out i could do it pretty well. I think i got a good score for the quiz because im confident with my answers and i reviewed it just before the quiz started. After the quiz, we all discussed about the answers with our friends and i think i may get a little careless mistake on this quiz. i think i'll get a good score for this. next time, i think i'll redo my composition for my composer

12-9-11 Monday

Today is the time that we perform our great composer's music. I was going to perform Bouree by Johann Sebastian Bach, but the it turned out that i didn't have enough practice time so i couldn't play through the whole song. Instead, i played a much easier composition by Johann Sebastian Bach, Minuet. I think i played it ok because i minimized the number of stops in the song. Some of my friends played better than me. Mr. John said we can redo the song but he didn't give a complete information regarding that. Next session, we are going to have a quiz

8-9-11 Thursday

Today, we were supposed to perform our great composer's song but a lot of us wasn't ready yes. So, we did like practice in front of our friends and Mr.john gave some tips and reccomendation on how can we improve and how can we be better. Mr.John gave us a trial score so that we know are we already good in this prcatice or do we need to still practice. I think i didn't do so well so Mr.John gave advice to me that i should practice a lot more at home. Next session, we will do the real performance.

22-8-11 Monday

Today, we learned about the triads of the first and second inversion. Again, Mr.John checked our music books after we were asked to note down the important parts of the lesson and try to do the inversions of the other scales. Today, my friend, Hashfi redo his singing assesment and he did better than last time. Afterwards, Mr.John asked questions to us if we understood about this lesson. Some of us still didn't quite understand so Mr.John asked some of us to write down on the whiteboard, the steps and the formula for the traids and inversion. Next session, we were supposed to perform our classical composer's song.

18-8-11 Thursday

Today, as Mr.John said in the previous session, we continued the lessons of the major 7 scales and Mr.John taught us about inversion. At first a lot of people were confused what was inversion and how can we do it in music. After Mr.John explained it to us, most of the people understood and we were asked to do, in our music books, the major scale, the major seventh scale and the inversions for both the major scales and major seventh scales. Afterwards, Mr.John checked our music books to see if we understood the concept and the method of finding the inversions. Some of my friends also redo the singing assesment to get a higher score. Next session, we will learn about triads.

15-8-11 Monday

Today, in music class, we reviewed about the basics of the major scales but with an addition of major 7 scales. We learned how to add the 7th note to the natural major scale. Then, Mr.John asked us to write in our music books, the formula to find the seventh note and also, we were asked to write all the major 7 scales, which is basically a major scale with a 7th note added. Next session, Mr. John is going to continue this lesson

Today, i did the slide show presentation wih my group. my group did the presentation starting with the introduction, the baroque era, the classical era, the romantic era and finally, the mdern era. i presented about the romantic and classical era. we didnt really have difficulty on making the slide show presentation because last week, me and my group went to blanka's house and did the slide show. i think me and my group did the slide show presentation well and even though it isnt that perfect, i think me and my group still needs more teamwork

8-8-2011 Monday

Today, i brought my slide show presentation material to music class. i brought Johann Sebastian Bach. he is one of the most famous composers of all time. For the presentation, we need to make a group of 4 people and discuss about the information we gathered and make a short background information regarding what we just discussed. For the Slide show presentation, my group is Blanka and Heidy. We need to research the 4 different era's which are Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern. I was assigned to do the Romantic and Classical era. i researched about its composers, its music type and also its musical instruments at that time. Most of the information, i got from the notes and handouts that the teacher gave my group. next session i should be ready with my slideshow presentation

Today was the day that the singing assessment take place. Even before my turn, i felt so nervous. But my friends keep telling me that if i already do the assessment, i can feel more free and relieved. When it was my turn, my legs were shaking but then when i sing, i remembered all the lyrics which made me feel a bit relieved. So of my friends said that i did well but i think i could do better. After the assessment, I feel much more relieved than ever because i'm already done with the singing assessment and according to the booklet for music, there is no more singing assessment. Next, i should prepare for my next assessment, slide show presentation

1-8-2011 Monday

Today in music class, i was asked what song that i would sing for the singing assesment next session. At first i chose "You've got a friend in me" OST Toy story. But after practicing that song at home, i figured out that it was to high for me in pitch. So i told Mr John that i will change my song to " You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban. I remember all the lyrics of this song and iI know the rhythm too. The teachers gave us a chance to practice in front of the class even though it was only bowing, adjusting the mike and bowing again. For the next session, i think i'll need to practice this song at home

29-7-2011 Thursday

Today, i reviewed the C major scale up to the C# major scale in theory class. I learned this because i already forgot about this and so i review it. After i reviewed it, i remember where to put the sharps and i remember all the scales. Mr John also told us again about the way to find whats the scale after C, and so on. The scale starts with C which is natural, and then D, 1 sharp, etc. Next session i think we will learn about the Major scale with Flat

25-7-2011 Monday

Today is my fist session of music in grade 9. My teacher for theory class is Mr. John Legoh. He told us what to bring for every music session. He also distribute us into our instrument classes based on the audition we did last month. Then he explained us about our first assessment which was that we need to sing a popular music in front of everyone. It was on Thursday 5th of July. My response to this was that i was shocked and i panicked. In the next session, i should think about what will i sing for the assessment
