All in All revise

While not practicing for the composition, i refreshed my classical guitar skills by revising again a church song taught by my church friends called "All in All". I played this song so that i can refresh mt fingers from playing the composition again and again. Overall, i think i still did well in this song.

2nd 16 bars composition practice #2

My second practice for the composition's second half. In the first video, the chords were a bit messed up so than i fixed it in this part. The sound is also a lot clearer now and the chords is more clear. I think I've improved  a lot from the previous practice but I've got to keep practicing so then I can retain this.

1st 16 bars composition practice #2

This is the first 16 bars of the composition again. I tried again with a few changes and it turned out to be better than the last video. The tempo is now correct, and the techniques is better. After this i will combine this withe he 2nd half of the composition so it will become a full song. Even thought this is already 2 tries, i still need to improve on a lot of things

2nd 16 bars composition practice #1

This is the second 16 bars of the composition and it was fairly more challenging and harder to play than the first one because it has some other variations. I was also still a bit lost in tempo and bad in techniques but i'll keep practicing so that i can get this part right

1st 16 bars composition practice #1

This is me practicing for the 1st half of the composition. It was not perfect yet and here were some technique errors and also some tempo errors because sometimes i play it too fast or too slow. I should keep on practicing so the i can get better in this.

28-5-12 Monday

Today me and my group kept practicing. We made se last minute changes to the second part of the composition because some of the notes were hard to play, so the we simplify it to make it easier. This change will make the song more easier, but still retaining the sad theme of that song. If we were to change entirely the song, it would have diferrent theme

25-5-12 Friday

Today we were told that we were going to be given the MDW booklet on monday and that the dead line was on june 8th. We were then separated into the groups and put in different rooms with my group in the guitar room so that we can practice as individual groups and we can focus more. We did not have instrument class for the same reason again and again

21-5-12 Monday

Today we all performed our compositions again in front of class. My group did and ao did everyone else. Mr john gave me another tips to practice at home fpr the picking so that the sound is clearer. I'll follow that advice as it will help me to perform the composition better.

18-5-12 Friday

Today, all of us performed our compositions in groups. Before that, we gave the final drafts of the composition. After playing the compositions, we were each given feedbacks on how we can improve so that the song would be mich more smooth. My feedback was that the guitar should be given more variation and the piano should sound more clear because it is the main melody. The instrument session was used for the performance of the groups

14-5-12 Monday

We are done with the composition and we try to practice it. The counter melody was still fast because we hve never tried the composition before. The beat was supposed to be a bit fast but the we decided to play it slowly. Then we were given the draft paper to write the composition on. Feedbacks from the teacher was that the main melody is piano so then it needs to be clear. Next week, we need to suit the final draft.

11-5-12 Friday

Today, i continued my composition again. One of my friends group i already done and they played their composition in front of the whole class. They were given comments and tips for further improvements by the teachers. I also had some difficulty with my composition so then i asked mr john for help on how to draw the chords and finding the right chord for the right note. Instrument class was used to continue and revise the composition

4-5-12 Friday

Today we still continued the composition. We've done half the composition already with the complete melody, counter melody, and chords. After testing it out, it sounds okay but it can use some improvements. The we started to think about how to make the second part of the song. Its hard to think about it but then we started to just give ideas. Instrument class was again used to continue and practice the composition.

30-4-12 Monday

Today, i continued the composition with my groupmates. We had difficulty in making the counter melody because sometimes it doesnt fit with the melody and the chords. After trying the composition a bit, i realize that the conposition has a quite sad theme because of the slow tempo and some minor chords. Again, the instrument class was used to continue the composition with my group

27-4-12 Friday

Today, we were divided into the groups that were decided yesterday and we did 4 bars of the composition. After checking that with mr.herry (mr.john was absent) he made some corrections and gave us some tips on how to improve and make it better. We should have already finished 12 bars of the composition during the next session. Todays instrument class was used to improve the composition. I think i should think of what the composition will sound like so i can get the theme whether its sad or happy or romantic etc.

23-4-12 Monday

Today, Mr.John was absent so we were taught by Mr.Herry today. We learnt about soprano, alto baritone and tenor. We also learned about the types of clefs like the G clef, the F clef and the Bass clef and their usages. then, we learned how to make the counter melody according to the melody and the chords. We were then divided into groups and i was one group with Heidy and steven. We were asked to make a compostion, 32 bars for Guitar, Piano, and Violin. I hope that the composition willl end up succesful and unique. Then, we were asked to submit 4 bars by friday. In instrument class, we all just practiced our guitar skills

20-4-12 Friday

Today was the singing assessment and we had to sing the song that we practiced called price tag. The assessment were in groups of 3 and in my group was Heidy and Blanka. Afterwards, we sang a little bit Michael Jackson's "Heal the world" just for fun. I think i did well in the assessment and i think i was also confident. we needed to fill the booklet about the singing assessment afterwards

16-4-12 Monday

Today we learned more about chord progression and then we practiced it by making our own song and finding the suitable chords for that part of the song. afterwards, we practiced singing the pop song again so that we can sing all parts, even the rap part. As usual in instrument class, we played duet songs in the guitar and shared some songs

13-4-12 Friday

Today, in music class, we learned further about chord progression and how can we arrange it in a composition. Afterwards, we practiced "price tag" again but this time, we tried doing the rap part and it was quite hard. Mr.Harry said that we had to sing the whole song with the rap part to get a good score. During instrument class, as usual me and yohanes tried doing that duet again but this time it was better. Ronaldo and hashfi were pretty awesome too with heir duet.

8-4-12 Monday

Today was the first day of term 4. We were told that our first assessment for this term is a to sing a western pop song sang by "Jessie J" called "Price Tag". We practiced in class by firstly doing vocal warm ups so we would get used to it. We also learnt about chord progression. At first some of use were confused but after wa while, everyone understood well. We were taught this because later on, we had to make a composition based on chord progression. In instrument class, me and my friend, yohanes played guitar together. We played the song that "Depapepe", a japanese duet that plays guitar. My friend Hashfi and Ronaldo was also playing a duet, so then we stayed inside while they went outside. I will keep practicing what i'm playing with yohanes.

28-3-12 Wednesday

Today was the day that me and my friends performed the chamber orchestra music. There was a fair number of audiences and that made me quite nervous. Despite that, i still played the pieces without feelings much nervous and i think i did my best. I am satisfied with my performance on stage but i could actually do better if i can just conquer my nervous feeling and focus more on following the composition.

26-3-12 Friday

Today was the final practice for the chamber orchestra music, so we practiced for the whole 2 sessions. We practiced both song , full which were Minuet by Bocchelini and Salute D'amor. We will be performing tomorrow, during lunch time. I will keep continuing to practice and perfect the 2 songs so that i can play well during the performance.

19-3-12 Monday

Today, we practiced again the composition but we also had to quickly finish reading the composition. Although during the assessment, we can read the composition, I still need to memorize so then it will be easier for me. I can already the Salute d'amor full, but i still don't know how to play some parts of the Minuet. Next time, i will need to finish learning minuet because the next next session, we will perform the chamber orchestra music together

16-3-12 Friday

Today is supposed to be the day of the assessment but since we were not ready yet, Mr.John postponed it to next week Monday so i should start practicing at my best so that on the day, i wouldn't have a hard time performing on the day itself. Again, we practiced for the whole session as a small group

12-3-12 Monday

This session is the same as usual, we practiced the songs for the orchestra, nothing really new compared from the previous sessions. But we shouldn't be too relaxed because the real assessment for us to play as an orchestra is coming up in a few weeks time

9-3-12 Friday

Today we practiced the orchestra as usual. Minuet and salute d'amor. Mr.John taught us about the guitar part, which is pretty hard to learn and understand at first. But as Mr.John played, we understood bit by bit. That was what we did all day. We even practiced it during the instrument session

5-3-12 Monday

Today we practiced the song from yesterday again, the one we are going to use for the orchestra, salute d'amor. The first official practice was recorded and posted on the web. Today, we were also given another piece by Luigi Bocchelini called minuet. It was quite difficult but quite catchy,

Today, we practiced the song we were going to use in our orchestra performance which was salute d'amor . I could only read the first part and some of the second part, which i think was already good enough. I think i should be posting videos of me practicing soon and so i wouldnt be left behind with my blog.

24-2-12 Monday

Today, we submitted our assessments which was a booklet about the romantic era music. It was quite tiring and challenging to make the booklet but then, after it is done, it was quite relieving. Afterwards, some of the other groups did their presentations and that took the time left for the theory music session. Afterwards, because we did not have instrument class, Mr.John and Mr.Herry told us to update our blogs because it was going to be assessed. Next time, I will update my blogs and practice songs that Mr.John told us to do.

20-2-12 Friday

Today, it was my groups turn to do the slide show presentation because last time, our presentation was saved in mac computer so it couldn't be read. My group mates were Heidy and Blanka. We used audio samples of the famous songs composed so that my friends and teachers can understand what we are trying to present. In instrument class, Mr.John reminded us that there was a booklet to be due next session, on monday

17-2-12 Monday

Today, we didn't do much in music class. We received the assessment paper from last session and i was happy because i could understand the scales and how to find them. Afterwards, Mr.John handed us a music sheet that we were supposed to play as one class in an ensemble. I wasn't really that good in reading notes but thankfully, Mr.John helped me read some notes that were difficult to read. next time, i will continue reading and playing the music sheet

13-2-12 Friday

Today, we had the assessment about the major and minor scales, as well as harmonic and melodic scales. Our task was to make the scales on the worksheet based on what scales was shown. Some scales, we should make melodic and harmonic but on the other hand, some scales we just need to make natural or minor. For the vocabulary, i only filled a little bit because i was studying for the notations and forgot about the vocab. In the end, i filled in only some of the vocabulary that i remembered.

10-2-12 Monday

Today we focused on learning and understanding the harmonic and melodic scales. At first, we got the formula on how to find and remember these scales well. When i was asked to write it on the board, i had a pretty hard time because i was very new to it but this is a good way to understand more about melodic and harmonic. afterwards, everybody had to do a scale on the board and then it was time for instrument class. Nothing new, just practicing some songs.

6-2-12 Monday

Today, we were discussing about the trips. From the arts and drama department, they were planning a trip to go to Singapore and watching the musical drama named "Wicked" and even though we were actually planning to go somewhere else, it is a big chance that we would go to Singapore. We were also told to study the vocabs and remember the meanings. next up is the Presentation

3-2-12 Friday

Today in music class, we discussed more on the music theories such as major chords, minor chords, the natural scale and the sharps. We also got a sheet about the romantic era and some vocabulary and terms that were used frequently in the era. There wasn't much time to practice so the next session i should continue working on my presentation

30-1-12 Monday

Today in music class, we discussed about the upcoming assessments which were the slideshow presentations, individual booklets and the music theory test. We were told to group ourselves into groups of 3 or 4. The topic is all about the romantic era. My group members was the one i worked with last year, Heidy and Blanka. Mr. John told me that the due date of this presentation was next week or next 2 weeks. Next session, I would continue to discuss about the slide show presentation.

27-1-12 Friday

The 23rd of January was the Chinese new year holiday so there were no classes at that time.

Today was the day of our singing assessment. We all stood up in front one by one to sing the "Indonesia" song that we rehearsed few sessions ago. I think i did pretty good but I wasn't very confident. To improve, next time I should be more confident and sure that I can sing well

20-1-12 Friday

Today we continued to keep on practicing for the song. I accidentally wrote "Indonesia Pusaka" in the last 2 posts but the actual title of the song is just "Indonesia". We tried out our voices in the piano so then during the assessment day, we don't have to set the piano to match our voice tone. Again, we practiced in trios in front of the class. Next session, we are going to have the real performance.

16-1-12 Monday

In this session, we were told that for our assessment, we would have to sing Indonesia Pusaka. Before we had practice, we had some vocal exercises and practices first. Arterwards we sung in groups of 3. The performance day was going to be on the next session so Mr. John told us to memorize the lyrics and prepare

Today was the first music session of semester 2. Music class changed its days from Thursdays and Mondays, into Mondays and Fridays. In today's session, we talked about what we did in our holidays and shared them. Afterwards, we kind of reviewed a little about the past lessons and in instrument class, we learned a new song. I think it was called La Cumparsita

14-11-11 Monday

Today, everyone reviewed and practiced their compositions in front of the class. My composition was a bit messed up so then Mr. John helped fixed my composition by giving some tips and suggestion on how to improve my composition. Still sometimes, i mess up the tempo and the beat but its still a practice so its okay. Next time, we are supposed to submit the classical vs popular music booklet
